Cryptic God
When I was asked to write a short story of between 3,000 to 7,000 words I agreed hesitantly. Short fiction isn't my strong point and I willingly admit to that fact. Alas, I agreed to give it a go and was given a two word prompt of 'Priest and Vampire' to get me started.
I wrote five pages before realising the story wasn't going to make the limited word count. Instead it was the beginnings of another novel.

Father Nathaniel Sterling, an angst ridden priest struggling with vow of celibacy, his feelings for the same sex, and the horrific memories of a family tragedy.  At only 26 years of age, ordained for less than 6 months, Nathan is shunned by his new parishioners in the judgemental village of Liberty.  Loneliness, isolation, and shamed feelings of guilt begin to take its toll.  Nathan is struggling with his vocation and his sanity.

A beautiful young vampire has Father Sterling in his sights as a potential life companion.  But there's something different about Ambrose, something far outside myth and legend.  Ambrose isn't the undead and he isn't a brutal killer.  Instead Ambrose is the guardian of Liberty and its surrounding villages, keeping humans safe from bad-blood, rogue Ambrosia vampires.  He is the only one to show Father Sterling the compassion he needs to find his true path and confront his horrific memories.

Sounding Zephyr
I've never professed to be an organised writer. I began Sounding Zephyr prior to both Liquid Glass and The Slayer's Apprentice.

The plot for Sounding Zephyr was inspired by my interest in learning sign language. I've always thought sign should be taught in schools as a basic second language. During my research into learning how to sign I started wondering how someone who's lived a life of silence would react if suddenly able to hear. I presumed certain individuals would cope better than others.

Sounding Zephyr throws a profoundly deaf young man into a world of sound. Not everything is wine and roses when silence abruptly turns into a frightening world of noise. Can Zephyr adjust to hearing with the help of his highschool sweetheart, or will the change overwhelm him into returning to silence?

Characters take on life sometimes by luck, but I suspect it is when you can write more entirely out of yourself, inside the skin, heart, mind, and soul of a person who is not yourself, that a character becomes in his own right another human being on the page.

Beautiful Imperfection

I'll be teaming up with the brilliant Mychael Black to write Beautiful Imperfection.  My first attempt at co-authoring and I couldn't be happier with the idea!

'Transgender issues, family angst, lost journals, and soul deep romance'

This novel is still very much in its conception stages.  Stay tuned...We have a feeling this will turn out to be one hell of a story!
